APRIL 25, 2011



The Estherville Lincoln Central Board of Education held a special meeting on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in Room N-208, at the Roosevelt Elementary Building. Board members present were:  Mike Karels, Vice President;  Molly Anderson, Duane Schnell,  Michelle McCoy, President Jodie Greig, Nancy Anderson and Don Schiltz.  Others present were Dick Magnuson, Superintendent; Kate Woods, Board Secretary/Treasurer, Frank Christenson, High School Principal; Brian DeJong, Activities Director/Asst. HS Principal;  Mike Peterson, Middle School Principal;  Kris Schlievert; Elementary Principal, Bob Grems, RWC Director/Dropout Prevention Coordinator; Mike Tidemann, Ed Funston, Karla Lester, Jason Kollasch, Chuck Fandel, Laura Fandel, Sandy Fandel, Margaret Evans



CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL                                     President Greig called the special meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Board members present were M. Anderson, Karels, Schnell, McCoy, Schiltz, N. Anderson.

AGENDA APPROVAL                                                     

Motion by Karels, second by McCoy, to approve the agenda as


Motion carried 7-0.



FY 12 BUDGET REDUCTION PROPOSALS       President Greig addressed those present about the difficult decisions the

                                                                                              Board must make due to budget limits set by the state.

                                                                                                Public Input – Karla Lester addressed the board about the services provided

                                                                                                by the current nursing staff. 


                                                                                                Superintendent Magnuson reviewed the proposed budget reductions.

                                                                                                Motion by Karels, second by N. Anderson to approve the following:

                                                                                                ARRA Funds – Reading Postion, Title I Teacher Associate, .5 SPED Position.

                                                                                                Education Jobs Bill - .25 MS Vocal Music, Elementary TA, Technology Technician,

HS Study Hall Monitor. Resignations – 3rd and 5th grade teachers. Support Staff/Positions – Maintenance Position, Central Office .8 to .2 position, Transportation, reduce city stops.

Motion Carried 7-0


Motion by M. Anderson,  second by Schnell to eliminate the HS MOC program.

Motion carried 7-0


Motion by Karels,  second by Schiltz to reduce Nursing Staff all to .5.

Ayes – Karels, Schiltz, Greig, M. Anderson, N. Anderson, Schnell

Nays - McCoy

Motion carried 6-1


Motion by M. Anderson, second by McCoy to reduce 1.0 Guidance.

Motion carried 7-0


Motion by Schnell, second by M. Anderson to drop the in school driver’s ed


Motion carried 7-0


Motion by Karels, second by Schnell to adjourn the meeting at 8:28p.m.

Motion carried 7-0.
