CHILDCARE CENTER Superintendent Paul reviewed the packet of information that was prepared for the Board. There were several scenarios, showing projections based upon different rate increases and different changes to the program, i.e. eliminating the infant program or eliminating both the infant program and toddler program.
The Childcare Center has been steadily losing money and with the unavailability of grants, rates must be increased to continue the program. Bob Grems talked about the possibility of running an after school program at the RWC, but there is not enough room with the programming that already is going on at that time at the RWC. Cornwall-Miller asked what the goal is for the board, short term or long term. Does the District want to keep it open until then end of the school year or shorter, or find a way to continue it? Parents present would like to see the program sustained. In 2012 there were 351 school districts in Iowa, only 75 of them had some type of Before/After School Program or Daycare. The board will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 5:15 to decide how the program will proceed.
Adjournment – Motion by Greig, second by Anderson to adjourn the meeting at 9:11pm. Motion carried 7-0. The next regular meeting will be November 19, 2012.
